Postal geography and town geography answer different questions in South Windsor. A ZIP code directory can show how an address is routed, but it cannot by itself prove a parcel line, a resident, or a town boundary. Start with the exact street address when possible, then compare the USPS result with the town parcel layer and the record custodian. Older South Windsor place names and regional labels can help when a modern delivery line uses one postal city and one ZIP code.

South Windsor ZIP Code Coverage

The official material reviewed identifies one postal ZIP explicitly tied to the South Windsor postal city. That does not turn the ZIP into a parcel layer. USPS assigns delivery geography by address, while the town assigns parcels, voting districts, and legal descriptions by municipal records. The table keeps the known postal fact separate from the local place names that help a researcher recognize an address.

No second South Windsor postal ZIP, PO-box-only ZIP, or unique institutional ZIP was located in the reviewed official material. Adjacent East Windsor, Windsor, Manchester, and Hartford ZIP names may appear near a town edge or in a regional directory. An address-specific USPS lookup is the deciding check.

South Windsor ZIP Search Workflow

A reliable ZIP code search begins with the mode that matches the information in hand. USPS offers three distinct paths, and none should be treated as a people list. Use the result to validate an address, then move to the parcel or record system that answers the next question.

  1. For a known address, choose USPS by-address search and enter the street line. Add city and state, or use the address with the ZIP when the form permits it.
  2. For a postal-city question, choose by city and state. Enter South Windsor and Connecticut to see the ZIP values USPS associates with that postal city.
  3. For a known code, choose by ZIP. Enter 06074 and read the returned city names and USPS recognized-city notice.
  4. Compare the delivery result with South Windsor MapXpress by house number and street, owner name, or account. The town GIS does not offer a ZIP filter.
  5. Once the parcel is known, use its account, situs, mailing line, and legal description for land or address research. For a whole named road, continue with the South Windsor street directory rather than treating the ZIP as a resident roster.

This sequence also preserves the USPS disclaimer. A ZIP result does not confirm that a person or company is at an address. It confirms a postal match, and the address still needs to be checked against the right public custodian.

South Windsor USPS ZIP Search Fields

The USPS ZIP Code Lookup has field rules worth recording because a city-wide search and an address search return different kinds of information. Company and unit details can refine a known delivery point, while the city and ZIP modes are broader postal lookups.

USPS modeFieldRequired or optionalWhat it does
By addressStreet AddressRequiredMatches the physical delivery line; add City and State or the ZIP as supported
By addressCompanyOptionalAdds a business or organization name
By addressApt, Suite, or OtherOptionalRefines a unit or secondary delivery line
By city and stateCity and StateRequiredReturns ZIP values USPS associates with the postal city
By ZIPZIP CodeRequiredReturns city or postal-city names and a recognized-city notice

The USPS result is a routing aid, not a confirmation of occupancy, ownership, or business presence. USPS recommends a recognized city name for faster delivery and says a business address should be verified separately. Keep the lookup date with the result when a ZIP code directory entry will be compared with an older record.

The USPS capture shows the three search modes that separate an address check from a postal-city or ZIP check.

Those modes are why a ZIP code directory should describe the search method, not promise a ZIP-wide list of people.

South Windsor MapXpress Has No ZIP Filter

South Windsor MapXpress searches by name, house number and street, account, or map. Its advanced search adds street, acreage, land use, home square feet, year built, and sale year. ZIP is not one of the inspected fields. A ZIP-wide parcel list therefore requires a manual bridge: first obtain or verify the 06074 address set through USPS, then search each address or parcel account in the town GIS.

The map can show a parcel popup, address point, account, owner, location, acreage, land use, zoning, and links to details, a property card, Vision, FEMA, quick map, and street view. It also has district and aerial layers. Those tools help test whether a postal line belongs to a South Windsor parcel, but the GIS disclaimer means the map is not a legal survey or a certified boundary.

Vision's detailed search may expose address fields, but its dynamic form did not render in the inspection host. The full ZIP capability, historical cutoff, and result count are therefore unconfirmed. Use a verified parcel account and ask the Assessor when a ZIP match and a municipal record disagree.

Manual ZIP check. USPS validates delivery geography; MapXpress validates the town parcel layer. Neither portal is a one-click directory of every person using 06074.

South Windsor Voter and License ZIP Gaps

The Secretary of the State voter lookup is a person and town match, not a ZIP browse. The full statewide voter file is a separate written request that costs $300 and arrives as a CSV. Current rules limit it to election-related, scholarly, journalistic, political, or governmental purposes and restrict personal, private, commercial, advertising, and reproduction uses. PA 26-1 §96 makes birth year available in the public context while month and day remain exempt.

Connecticut eLicense can expose address, city, state, ZIP, and practice-city fields for some credential rosters, but the category and field set vary by selected credential. It is a credential verification route, not proof that a person lives at a ZIP. Business search works by entity name, ALEI, or filing number, so it also cannot be assumed to return every business in 06074.

The inspected eLicense roster form makes the optional address and ZIP fields visible while leaving the actual credential choice to the searcher.

When the roster exposes a ZIP field, use the returned credential details as a narrow public affiliation check and confirm status on the official detail record.

South Windsor Situs and Mailing Lines

A ZIP code is only one label attached to an address record. The situs is the physical property location. The mailing line is the address used for tax correspondence. The legal description defines land in a deed or map. A city and ZIP label describes postal delivery, while a voter residence describes a registration record. A directory entry may use an older town or neighborhood name. These fields can agree, but they do not mean the same thing.

ZIP code
A five-digit USPS delivery area used to route mail to recognized city and address combinations.
ZIP+4
An added four-digit delivery segment that narrows a route; it is not a separate South Windsor municipality or parcel key.
PO-box ZIP
A code assigned for post-office box delivery. No South Windsor-only PO-box ZIP was located in the reviewed sources.
Unique ZIP
A code assigned to one institution or very limited address group. No local unique ZIP was located.
Carrier route
A postal delivery route inside a ZIP, useful to USPS operations but not a public resident roster.

For an edge address, save all four relevant values: the USPS delivery line, the parcel situs, the account or map key, and the recorded legal description. That bundle survives changes better than a city label alone.

South Windsor ZIP Code and Town Lines

USPS boundaries are delivery geography, not municipal boundaries. A 06074 address can be close to a town line, and an address near South Windsor may carry a neighboring postal city. The reviewed research did not locate an official GIS ZIP overlay, a ZIP split or realignment history, or an address-by-address town-line crosswalk. The safe answer is to test the exact address with USPS and the exact parcel with South Windsor GIS.

South Windsor's history creates a second mismatch. Main Street settlement dates to 1679, Wapping was a distinct 1761 community, and South Windsor was set off from East Windsor in 1845. A pre-ZIP directory uses town, road, or neighborhood language, not 06074. Search Main Street, East Windsor Hill, Wapping, Long Hill, Vinton Mills, Pleasant Valley, Buckland, and Route 5 or John Fitch Boulevard as record terms, then verify the parcel or event town.

Boundary check. Do not turn a postal city into a legal town claim. USPS controls delivery assignment, while the Town Clerk, Assessor, GIS, or recorded map controls the public record question.

South Windsor Pre-ZIP Directory History

ZIP codes are a later postal layer, so a historical search must drop the code and use the address language of its era. Regional directories can group South Windsor with Hartford or East Windsor. The 1901 Geer's Hartford directory includes the OCR line “Ahern Thomas, South Windsor,” but the text is not a modern parcel record. Printed page images must be checked for initials, abbreviations, a street number, and whether the town name describes a residence or another local connection.

The State Library leads include Hartford suburban directories from 1905 to 1906, Hartford little suburban volumes in 1913 and 1915, a 1906 Hartford house directory and family address book, and Dau's blue book regional volumes for 1907, 1909, 1911, 1913, 1915, 1918, 1919, and 1922. Exact South Windsor page runs and a final printed year were not located. Census geography also changes: the town's historic survey identifies 1850 as the first federal census year that recorded South Windsor separately from East Windsor.

When a ZIP code directory question reaches backward, use the older town name, street section, map, census, church, cemetery, and archive terms. A modern postal result can help locate the present address, but it cannot be pasted into a 1901 record.

South Windsor Edge Addresses and Gaps

Addresses near East Windsor, Windsor, Manchester, or Hartford can produce a postal name that does not match a town record. The same problem appears when a long rural lot is divided, a road uses an older name, or a directory shortens a street entry. The research did not locate a verified street-renumbering or renaming history, a ZIP-level population table, or a public crosswalk that resolves every edge address.

When a result is unclear, ask the USPS location tool about the delivery line, use MapXpress for the parcel, and ask the Assessor or Town Clerk about the record key. For a historical person, add Windsor and East Windsor to the name search. For a public organization or credential, save the entity or license number instead of relying on ZIP alone.

The strongest ZIP code directory entry therefore has a date, exact address, postal result, parcel account when available, and a note about what remains unconfirmed. That small record trail keeps postal routing, municipal geography, and resident research from being merged into one unsupported claim.
